Fingers in too many pies and too many hats on my head…..

I turned 35 last week! It’s the Presidential Birthday (American civics lesson: as stated in Article 2, Section 1 of the US constitution the president must be at least 35 years old.) I don’t want to be President. It seems like a shitty and stressful job. I already have too many “jobs” that are stressful enough, but at least I don’t have to deal with congress.

Anyway, I’m so over trying to organize birthday parties. They end up being too much work with too much expectations. I just went out for a yummy vegan meal with Paul at Portobello and had a drink with some friends.

But there are lots of other things going on!

The Portland Button Works distro and shop are humming along beautifully.

Derek and I released the 6th episode of Nobody Cares About Your Stupid Zine Podcast! We talk about what we have been up to for the past year as well as the upcoming International Zine Month.

Derek and I also organized a 31 Days of International Zine Month with zine related things for you to do each day! What? Last year I wore a zine shirt for each day. How was I going to top that?

We also just put together the Portland Button works Quarterly. It is part zine/part catalog for PBW. It looks like this and is available free with every Portland Button Works order, free at the shop and other places around Portland, or a self addressed stamped envelope sent to the shop.

Two color risograph print, 8 pages.

Let’s see…paul and I have also been working in the garden but I haven’t been taking photos. They all just seem to look pretty similar as years past. I’m working on a new zine to have out by the symposium. I just need to sit down and work on it. I’m also working on the Portland Zine Symposium again and getting stoked for all the guests we are going to have!

Birthday weekend with waffles and slugs…but no slug waffles.

Yup, I'm 33 and redyed my hair blue. In the back is a large poster I made of Brainscan zine art for a gallery show last year.

Friday night Theresa and I went up to the Riverhouse and James met us. We had a fire and talked late into the night. Saturday I came back to pick up Paul and Dan and Blue and Andy showed up while I was gone.  Later Lisa, Marc, Thomas, and James showed up.

There was a jam session with acoustic giutar, acoustic bass, and ukulele on the back porch by the river.

more hippy stuff

Blue and I found two slugs and one was really big!

yum!

I took this photo and it came out blurry but I sort of think that fits the mood of the evening. This was before we lit the fire. I didn't take my camera out when we had a fire because even after drinking I knew it was a bad idea.

That night Paul and I had a bed inside but decided to sleep in a tent by the bonfire, which was pretty rad. Then, at about 6am, it started raining. When things in the tent started to get wet we decided to head inside for the rest of the sleepytime.

ok, so I don't have any pictures of the finished waffles but they were great! We put daiya cheese and chopped up bits of broccoli in some. The broccoli steamed perfectly! We also made some with soyrizo and daiya and they were tasty too!

Paul works at Voodoo Doughnuts and brought home two buckets of doughnuts for a friend. I woke up to two huge buckets of doughnuts on my porch. I thought I would share this with you. I'm not really a sweets peprson but I still find this ridiculous and awesome.

Happy Birthday to me!

I turn 32 today! Right now I’m in bed uploading images from my garden to post here. I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing today. 32 is sort of an age that isn’t that important but birthdays are always supposed to be fun I guess. Paul bought me a super fancy Wusthof knife set. I’m in love with how sharp they are and well made. Now I just need  a huge meal to make and try all of them out! I welcomed my birthday in last night alone with the housecats and chamomile tea with real chamomile from my yard. It was seriously the best chamomile tea I have ever had.

Paul was playing a show in Salem and I wasn’t really into going down for it. It was nice to be in the house alone with the cats and the windows open with the evening air coming in. I got some writing done for a zine I have been waffling about putting out. Recent events that I thought would pass are making it necessary in processing for me. At least I’ll have a zine ready for the the symposium, eh?

Here’s a pretty good review of Brainscan 23. It seems to be by someone who doesn’t read a lot of zines. At least she gets the gist of the stories and the layout. That’s why I write zines. I’ m not aspiring to be an author, I’m a zine kid and that’s fine with me.

Here’s a ton of photos from my yard for you to enjoy:

I have a birthday this week!

I turn 32 on Friday!

I’m sort of over celebrating my birthday too much. I think that Paul and I are going to go to Portobello vegan Trattoria Friday night. I’ll have to remember to leave room for a fancy vegan dessert too! maybe we’ll have to go on Thursday to avoid the crowds of Friday nights.

Paul wants to get me a nice set of kitchen knives. I have a knife block but after years of housemates a few of them have walked away and they weren’t that great to begin with. Paul wants to get me a fancy new set and I’m stoked! We were going to go knife shopping yesterday but he seemed to be glamoured by the muses as I found him in bed with several piles of lyrics, a guitar, notebooks, and his tape recorder. How can I complain? I’m the same way about zines when the muse finds me. I made some breakfast burritos and then went on with my day including a trip to the post office and a Portland Zine Symposium meeting.

I just gotta say that I LOVE everyone working on the sympsoium this year. There were only 4 of us at the meeting but everyone was great. Then I rode home with Blue and Doug. I really like riding bikes in packs of people. On my way downtown my bike odometer hit 100 miles since I got back from the UK and France. That makes about 4 1/2 miles a day since I have gotten back. That’s pretty good. I need to keep that up this summer. Last year I was too distracted to ride enough but 2009 has continued to rule as much as I expected so I should keep up with riding more.

Time for some coffee and then waking Paul up for knife shopping and maybe a picnic if the day stays nice. I also need to take more pictures of my yard since new things are blooming these days.
